MEDIO AMBIENTE E HIGIENE

El Banco Central Europeo (BCE) se propone realizar un uso prudente de los recursos naturales, preservar la calidad del medio ambiente y proteger la salud de las personas en lo que respecta a la fabricación y distribución de los billetes en euros.


Impacto ambiental

En 2003 el BCE evaluó el impacto ambiental de los billetes en euros. La investigación concluyó que el impacto ambiental de los billetes en euros durante su ciclo de vida completo equivale a que cada ciudadano de la Unión Europea recorra un kilómetro en coche o deje encendida una bombilla de 60 W durante medio día. El ciclo de vida de los billetes incluye su fabricación, almacenamiento, circulación y tratamiento al final de su vida.

El BCE ha implantado un sistema de gestión ambiental del Eurosistema, en cooperación con el sector de fabricación de billetes. Su objetivo es seguir protegiendo el medio ambiente de la mejor manera posible.
 

Cuestiones de higiene

Los billetes en euros son seguros. Evaluaciones independientes han confirmado que todas las sustancias químicas presentes en los billetes están muy por debajo de cualquier límite establecido por los reglamentos de la Unión Europea.

Antes de su introducción en enero de 2002, los billetes en euros fueron sometidos a examen con el fin de garantizar que no entrañaban ningún riesgo de toxicidad al ser ingeridos o tocados y que eran nocivos para el material genético.

Tan limpios como las tarjetas de crédito

En los billetes se han encontrado típicamente niveles bajos de bacterias comunes procedentes de fuentes como las tiendas de alimentación. La presencia de bacterias es tan pequeña que ni siquiera podría provocar síntomas de importancia menor. Las tarjetas de crédito de plástico suelen presentar niveles de bacterias similares a los billetes.

En ocasiones, el Eurosistema ha sido consultado en relación con los temores acerca de algunas sustancias. En todos los casos, la concentración era tan minúscula que no planteaba ningún riesgo para la salud o no se encontró la sustancia en cuestión.

LETTER OF INTENT

We wish to use the electronic media and/or print media produced by the European Central Bank (ECB) to inform others. We declare that:
1. Any information or materials received from the ECB will be used for information purposes only.
2. We will not use the “€ OUR MONEY” logo for purposes that could be detrimental to the euro, or for commercial or advertising purposes, and we will adhere to the style guidelines provided in the Partnership Programme.
3. Any electronic materials, pictures, files or documents provided by the ECB will remain its sole property. The ECB will reserve its or third-party copyrights. We will not pass any information or materials received from the ECB to any third party, except for production purposes.
4. Should we use the original master files of materials prepared by the ECB, we will preserve the integrity of the text.
5. We pledge to follow the reproduction rules for euro banknotes and coins as published in the Official Journal of the European Union and available on the ECB’s website at www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/banknotes/reproduction/html/index.en.html.
6. If we use electronic media online, we will include a link to www.new-euro-banknotes.eu and we will inform the ECB of the material used and where it has been used. We will forward the links.
7. We understand that stocks of ECB materials for distribution are limited. We will inform the ECB of the number of copies distributed, the means of distribution as well as the target groups.
On behalf of the company/institution mentioned above, we declare that we will refrain from using any materials either in printed or electronic form provided by the ECB until our membership of the Partnership Programme has been confirmed.
We will be liable for any damages incurred by the ECB should we not act in accordance with this Letter of Intent. We also understand that the ECB reserves the right to terminate our membership at any time.
